Picture
Welcome to Jaguar Productions.  The name of this company was coined by my father in 1980 when he planned to open his business after a lifetime career as a photographer and short time career as a Motion Picture Director Cameraman in Africa in the early 1960's.  His migration to Australia in 1965 was unfortunately unable to support his dream career to move into television, and so he worked for the Ford Industry in the last stage of his life.  He died in 1981 aged 59.

I think that now I am in my 50's I feel a genetic pull towards his dream.  While I have dabbled in film making since dad introduced me to it in 1980, it has been in stops and starts as the technology has evolved and I have been able to invest in the appropriate equipment.  In the 1990's I owned a Panasonic M7 Camera that sat on one's shoulder, a far cry from Dad's camera that could only sit on a tripod for fear it would break your arms (both arms to hold it) let-a-lone the battery porta Pac you carried on the shoulder weighing a good 10kg!!

By the mid 1990's I also had a great stills camera, that used film as opposed to digital, but the cost of developing film was often a barrier to its use.  It was not until 2012 that I purchased my first digital camera (as a Father's Day gift to myself, I thought Dad would be pleased with) and that was not long superseded by cameras in mobile phones.

In 2018 I purchased a Samsung Tablet for its ability to make calls & texts for business and a bonus side effect was the excellent camera for both photography and film.  My first 12 films were recorded on this or a new Nokia mobile phone (to test its capacity) before I purchased a hand sized Panasonic video camera for myself (for Father's Day 2019).  However, the turning point for me was undertaking the 3-day introduction course to Video Editing with Adobe Premier Pro CC.  Filming is one thing, but Editing opens a whole new world!!

My skills in writing poetry & short stories have found a resurgence with my filmmaking skills and I have created a number of films from a poem. While some films are for a serious purpose, most are for fun and frivolity.

I am also interested in being commissioned to work for you, if you are interested.  I am particularly keen on interviews with Elders about their life, for the family keepsake, as well as a learning tool for younger generations. As I grow older and am around more and more people over the age of 70, I am disappointed they don't pass on their wisdom to the younger generations more often. They tell me they gave up because no-one was listening! Here is an opportunity to hear their stories when you are ready to listen - often after they have completed their life.

Feel free to contact us if you have an idea that needs a filmmaker, and we can see what we can do. Cheers,

Sophia Cull
