Frequently Asked Questions

What is involved to make a film?

We start with a free consultation meeting and discuss the type of film you are thinking about. If you are not sure, we can show you elements of films we have made, for those clients who have given their permission to show it privately.

If you decide to go ahead, we set up a date to start filming and you put a deposit of 50% to secure your spot. We have four hours all up to capture the stories and that can be divided into a minimum of a one-hour session over four days or spread over several weeks. We prefer to make a film about one person but if you are a couple and would like a combination of your own interview time and time together, that can be negotiated. Just remember this price noted below is for four hours filming so if you want more hours to tell combined stories the financial investment will be higher.

The final film is presented to you on a USB stick that you can plug into a computer, laptop or smart TV. You can make copies onto other USBs and spread the film throughout the family!

How long is the film?

How long is your story? How much of it do you want to tell?

We allow up to four hours of filming and depending on how it goes, you might get 2-3 hours of film once we cut out the pauses and interview questions etc. We can then leave it as a long film or, usually, we break it down into sections (of 15-20 mins) so the audience can capture one or two stories without being overwhelmed. We can talk about this at the review meeting once the first edit is put together.

How much does a film cost?

Irrespective of how you spread the four hours of filming (that is, in one sitting or four), the price remains the same. Please note that travel costs are not included in the price below and will be discussed at the first free consultation meeting.  Additional to the four hours filming there are two meetings afterwards. The first edit where you get to see the progress and give feedback about it; and after the final edit when we present the film. If you want to make major changes after the first edit, we will need to add a further meeting and, again, the financial investment will be higher than quoted here. For all that we are offering, your investment is a total of $1,500.

As noted, any variations to the framework can be negotiated and may be at an additional cost.

I'm interested, what's next?

OK great. Make sure that all people involved are aware of this project. While I have made the film unbeknown to children as a surprise for them, some family members may be upset if their contributions are left out. So just make sure everyone is happy and on board, then give us a call. Sophia will answer the call to 0416-670-263 and she can set up your free consultation, either in person, by phone or by zoom link.

We look forward to hearing from you and capturing the stories of the elders in your life.

Please note that while I refer to elders being interviewed, that does not exclude anyone we traditionally would not call an elder. Anyone with a story is worth listening to!
